Basic facts
about the moon and it's phases:
What is the moon? How was it
formed?
-The
big bang theory proposed that at least 26.7 million years after
the solar system formed, a large "semi-planet" whacked a
still-molten Earth, heating and ejecting debris from both objects. Part
of the debris then clumped together to form the moon, which also
created
the moon's orbit around the earth at a 5 degree angle.
What causes
the phases of the moon? Magic?
- No, its not
magic. Rather its the relative
positions
of the earth, sun, and the moon which cause moon phases you see in the
sky. The phase of the moon you see depends on how much of the sunlit
side of the moon faces Earth.
What are the moon
phases, in order?
- New Moon, Waxing Crescent, First Quarter, Waxing
Gibbous, Full Moon, Waning Gibbous, Third quarter, and Waning crescent.

43
minutes.
